Early season tournament
From April, you can register your name on a list on the main tennis notice board for entry to the events. We have singles and drawn-doubles for men and ladies. We also have the Bevins a mixed doubles tournament where you choose your own partner. The initial stage of this competition is a Round Robin phase. Where appropriate your name will be drawn with a partner and play dates will be published. In 2010 finals day is likely to be 24th June. All the rules will be on the notice board. The entry fee is currently £3 per event.
Birmingham Area Lawn Tennis Leagues
We have 4 men’s teams in the leagues, this season playing in divisions 2, 3, 4 & 7 and 4 ladies’ teams in divisions 1, 2, 3, & 5. The teams are usually selected following on from match practice (see winter for more information.) We pay a match fee of £3 for away matches and £5 for home matches to cover the cost of the balls and food.
Singles ladders
Anyone who wants to join should add their details to a card on the ladder. The format and information about who you can challenge are on the main tennis notice board. More details from the men’s and ladies’ captains.
Late season tournament
From late June, you can register your name for entry to this tournament. There are several competitions. In 2010 finals day is likely to be Sunday 12th September. All the rules will be on the notice board. The entry fee is currently £3 per event
In the Watkins – ladies’ and men’s doubles, you choose your own partner. The initial stage of the competition is a Round Robin phase. From there, the winners and runners up go on to the knockout stage and play semi finals and finals.
There are also knockout tournaments:
Mixed Plate, a mixed doubles competition open to men who didn’t reach a semi-final, and women who didn’t reach a final, in the early season tournament. Again you are drawn with a partner.
Over 40’s, another mixed doubles knockout tournament where you are drawn with your partner.
Mixed doubles where your name will be entered into the draw for a partner.
.Social Tennis

In the winter:
· Floodlit leagues
· Warwickshire Winter leagues
· Match practice
· Social Tennis
Floodlit leagues
In September, enter your name with a partner, for either the mixed and/ or the ladies leagues. The leagues run from October to March inclusive and usually consist of 5 pairs in each division. Generally, in the mixed league you will have to arrange and play 4 matches per month and in the ladies league you play 4 matches every 6 weeks. A match consists of 2 sets. At the end of each period, 2 teams move up a division and 2 are relegated to a lower division. Full details of the league and its rules will be on the notice board. A folder for booking floodlit courts will be available by the main tennis notice board. The courts can be booked for 1 ½ hour slots from 7 – 8.30pm and 8.30 – 10pm. For courts 1 & 2, the fee for the floodlights is £2 per player. On courts 3 & 4 the fee is £1.25 per player. Entry to the leagues is £6 per pair.
Warwickshire Winter Leagues
We play in the Men’s, Ladies’ and Mixed leagues on dates which have to be arranged between the clubs. These matches are usually played on Saturday or Sundays.
For ladies over 40, we have 2 veterans’ teams and for the over 45 men there is one team. In the Men’s and Ladies’ Veterans leagues, we are given dates when the matches should be played. These matches generally start at 1pm on Saturdays.
Match fees for all winter matches is £2 each per match home and away.
Match Practice
Match practice usually starts from the end of January and runs to April. It runs for 2 hours each, for men and ladies, on Sunday afternoons. Initially it is open to any Gold Tennis member who would like to be considered for the teams. Depending on the turnout, it might be by invitation after the first few weeks. More details will be posted nearer the time.
Social Tennis
On Saturday mornings from 9am to 12 noon the courts are available for social tennis. The format is the same as for summer – just turn up and play. When you have 4 players, you play a set (tie break at 5-5 if people are waiting) come off court and mix in again.
